The Detention Center is responsible for the safety and security of persons incarcerated for violations of law.

Some of the duties of a Detention Officer are completing medical questionnaires, taking unauthorized property, issuing jail uniforms, bedding and linens. Below are additional duties performed by the Detention Staff:

  1. Booking of persons charged with crimes to include making sure the proper paper work has been issued to have the person arrested, taking fingerprints and photographs, and completing classification to determine which pod the inmate should be housed in.
  2. Detention Officers have the responsibility to ensure that the facility stays clean and supervise inmates in the process.
  3. Detention Officers have the responsibility of supervising inmate recreation on a daily basis.
  4. Detention Officers have the responsibility of making sure that inmates have their initial first appearance before the Magistrate Judge.
  5. Detention Officers have the responsibility to make sure inmates have access to the courts and to appear before the courts when called.
  6. Detention Officers are responsible for the health and welfare of all persons incarcerated. This is accomplished by having a full time jail nurse supervised by a medical physician that visits the jail once every week.
  7. Detention Officers must complete a state mandated two week basic jail officer training course. This training takes place within the first six months of employment.
